There’s a lot of value to testing your water quality. If you have any health issues like respiratory problems, skin irritation, or dry hair, it might be connected to what’s coming out of the tap. Even if you filter your drinking water or buy bottled water to drink, it won’t completely protect you from any negative effects. When you’re in the shower, your pores open up and take in water plus any chemicals that are in there too. When you breathe in the steam from the shower, you might be breathing in those same unhealthy chemicals.
We can order just about any test you wanna get for your water. But most people are interested in our residential water quality test (free with any plumbing diagnostic). This test will check for three basic things:
Chlorine
When your water is being treated, chlorine is used to get rid of some of the nastier things that can end up in water like bacteria or parasites. While you definitely don’t want those floating around in your drinking water, sometimes chlorine is used a little too enthusiastically and you could end up with a lot of it in your water. Chlorine isn’t a great thing to bathe in every day. It can soak through your pores. It can even end up in your lungs. Its low boiling point means it could be in the steam you’re breathing in from your shower.
Minerals
Some minerals end up naturally in your water. Iron, magnesium, and calcium are some of the most common. While these things are good for you, it’s easier to absorb them through food than through your drinking water. Minerals can be frustrating when there are a lot of them because they can stain your faucets, make your shower walls impossible to clean, and can even put yellow stains on your clothes.
pH Levels
If you’ve ever tried a sip of vinegar on its own, you’ll know what it’s like to drink something acidic. Something acidic has a low pH. On the opposite side, you have alkaline liquids which have a high pH. You don’t want your water too far on either side. When your water is too acidic, it’ll corrode your pipes faster and taste a little sour. When it’s too alkaline, it’ll clog up your pipes with extra build-up and can affect your water pressure. Our free test will check the pH of your water.
So you’ve had your water tested, and the results have shown that you have too much chlorine, too many minerals, or a pH that’s too high or too low. What should you do next? We’ll walk you through it. For high chlorine levels, you’ll need a filter. A good filter can remove enough chlorine to make it safer and better tasting. For a high pH, you’ll need an acid injector. For a low pH, you can add a filter that neutralizes the acid. Finally, you can use a water softener to fix your hard water.
