Keep Your Lights on with Generator Maintenance by Morris-Jenkins

Your whole home generator works hard to keep your lights on, your refrigerator running, your AC powered up, and so much more. While your generator’s a tough cookie, it can’t do all this without some TLC. With our help, your generator will keep your home powered up through storms and power outages for years to come!

What Does Generator Maintenance Look Like?

Your whole home generator (also called a standby generator) is a lot more complicated than you might think. When it comes to your annual generator maintenance, there’s a lot that goes into it to make sure things stay running the right way for another year.

When you schedule your whole home generator maintenance with Morris-Jenkins, we’ll:

  • Change the air filter. Your generator uses an air filter to protect itself from dust and debris. Changing it out allows your generator to run better.
  • Change the spark plugs. Spark plugs can get really dirty over the course of a year and changing them out keeps things running smooth.
  • Inspect your generator. Our experts know exactly how things should look inside your generator, and if they detect anything out of place, we’ll get it fixed up!
  • Clean your generator. Dirt, dust, and debris build up on your generator and can work their way into parts if you’re not careful about maintenance.
  • Change the oil. You wouldn’t skip oil changes for your car, so don’t skip them for your generator!
  • Change the oil filter. An oil change wouldn’t do much good if we didn’t also swap out the oil filter.
  • Check the battery. A weak or dead battery could leave your home without power during an outage. We’ll make sure your generator’s battery is in good health.
  • Make sure the area around your generator is clear. If plants have started to grow around your generator, it can mess with the intake and exhaust, so we’ll clear that stuff up.
  • Do a valve clearance check. If the valve clearance isn’t correct, the engine won’t run right. If it’s bad enough, the engine won’t be able to breathe properly, and it can cause bigger problems!
  • Do a load test (optional). We’ll shut off power to your home (just for a moment!) so we can see the generator power your home. This is a great chance for us to make sure everything you want powered to is getting it so your home is ready for a real outage!
