Signs You Need Garbage Disposal Repairs
When your garbage disposal is working well, it’ll run smoothly without too much noise. It’ll grind up scraps quickly and it won’t clog up the sink. As soon as it starts wearing out, there might be a few signs. We can fix it before your motor burns out and you have to get a new one, but only if you call right away. When your garbage disposal starts acting up, you might notice some of these signs:
- Strange noises: Your garbage disposal will make a few grinding noises when it’s taking care of food scraps. But if you hear a humming sound, a rattling sound, or noises that are a lot louder than they were before, it’s time for garbage disposal repairs. Usually, these noises will also come with a disposal that’s not grinding up food as well.
- Frequent sink clogs: All of us have gotten a little too eager and put too many scraps into the garbage disposal at one time. Most of the time, it just takes a little bit of patience while you wait for the appliance to take care of everything. You might even need a sink plunger for some of the trickier clogs. But if you’re using your garbage disposal correctly and still getting clogs, it might be a problem with the unit.
- Stinky sink: No one wants the smell of bacteria or rotten food in the kitchen. It doesn’t mix well with the yummy food you’re making. Your garbage disposal might not be grinding up the food very well. You can end up with bits of food that sit around in your disposal and fill up the room with a bad smell.
- Garbage disposal leaks: You should call for leak repair as soon as you can so you don’t end up with water damage. We’ll take a look to see where the leak is coming from. If it’s a leaky connection, we’ll be able to fix it without changing out your garbage disposal. Sometimes leaks in the device itself are a sign that you need a new one.
