Sometimes, toilets run because of a floating arm, a failing lift, or a snagged chain. Flush the toilet and lift the float as the tank fills up. That should shut off the fill valve. Likewise, you can manually untangle the chain to get the flapper to lay flat. This should fix things. If it doesn’t, or you have the same problem over and over, give us a call and let us help.
Then again, you could have a worn flapper or flush valve seal. Try putting a few drops of food coloring in the tank. If there’s a leak, that color will leach into the bowl. If that happens, you need to call a pro.
