When you need a sewer line replaced, there are a couple of ways that your home and your yard will let you know. Here are a few of the most common problems you might notice:
A clog that affects your entire plumbing system is called a mainline clog. When this happens, instead of a single toilet backing up, you might have multiple drains filling with water. Your shower might even let out a little gurgle when you flush the toilet.
Using a drain snake might seem to help for a short time, but when a clog is deep in your pipes, backups can start to happen more often. If the problem gets bad enough, it could be a sign that you need sewer line replacement.
Moisture in your home can be a serious problem. Burst lines can cause damage to your drywall, insulation, and other building materials. It can even lead to mold growing throughout your home.
Look for wet spots and discolorations on ceilings, floors, and walls. It’s much better to find and fix a problem when it’s small than to deal with burst pipes down the line!
When sewer lines burst underground, they can create puddles that never seem to drain…even if it’s been a while since it last rained.
Sewer gasses can also start to leak out, creating some not-so-neighborly smells. This is one of those signs you probably won’t have to work hard to notice.
At Morris-Jenkins, we’ll always look for ways to repair a problem before we suggest a replacement. But sometimes, sewer line replacement is the only option, especially if your pipes are corroded, decades old, or leaking in multiple places.
If one of these problems is the culprit, sewer line repair could be in your future:
Did you know that even products marked “flushable” could cause problems with your plumbing? There are some things that should never go down your drains, including grease, oil, paper towels, and baby wipes.
When these things make their way down your toilet or sink, they can cause major blockages. Over time, this can build up the pressure in your pipes, leading to cracks and leaks in your sewer line.
Trees can be a beautiful accent to any yard. But their roots can extend deep into the ground – sometimes right into your sewer pipes! When trees go a little too far in search of a drink of water, it can lead to chips, cracks, and pressure on your sewer line. When that happens, you might need sewer line repair.
If you’ve got an older home, you may have steel or cast iron sewer lines. While these incredible pipes can last for decades, over time, they can start to corrode. Once the metal starts to rust, it can eventually burst, causing a soggy, stinky mess.
When you give us a call, we’ll come out to take a look at your property. We’ll ask you about the problems you’re facing and run a drain camera down your line to see if there are any clogs that need to be cleared. We can even show you the pictures of your sewer line.
Once we find the problem, we’ll come up with a plan to fix it with minimal disruption to your yard. If we do have to dig to do a repair, we’ll replace your grass neatly and sprinkle some grass seed, leaving your yard in great shape.
To make life easier on you in the future, we can also install drain cleanouts, which are the white PVC plugs you might have seen on a neighbor’s lawn. These cleanouts provide access to your sewer lines so any new clogs can be removed easily. They’re also really handy for relieving sewer line pressure.
When you’ve got a problem with your sewer line, you don’t wanna be stuck waiting around for a fix. When you reach out to Morris-Jenkins, we can usually show up that very same day! After all, no one wants to be without their shower, toilets, and sinks for long!
