If you’ve been using your water for years and haven’t had any problems, you might not need to have your water tested. That’s not the case for many people, though. Your water might taste sour or bitter and it could be making your hair or skin feel dry. Here are a few situations that mean you should have your water tested:
The list of things you could have your water tested for is too long to fit on one page. But many of the problems you’re having with your water are probably coming from one of three things: minerals, high or low pH, or high chlorine levels. At Morris-Jenkins, we’ve made it easy to have your water tested for all three.
Minerals
Water in Waxhaw can have high levels of iron, calcium, or magnesium. These might be things that you have in your multivitamins at home, but you don’t want a lot of them in your tap water. Minerals are the reason you get unattractive water spots on your shower door and buildup on your faucets. They can also be the reason for yellow stains on your white t-shirts.
pH Levels
Do you know whether the pH of your water is too high or too low? A low pH means your water is too acidic and could be causing your pipes to corrode faster. If your pH is too high, it can make your water taste bitter. High pH is often the reason for low water pressure, too, since it can cause build-up in your pipes.
Chlorine Levels
No one wants bacteria or parasites in their tap water. That’s why your water is treated with chlorine before it makes it to your house. But some of that chlorine can still be there, and that isn’t healthy, either. Chlorine gets in your pores during a bath and can be in the steam that you breathe in during a shower.
Whenever you book us for plumbing diagnostic or repair, we can do a basic water test for FREE. This test examines your chlorine levels and one or two other fundamental factors. If you want something more precise and thorough, we have other options too! The photometer testing that we offer analyzes the ten biggest parameters of water quality. We’ll get a sample of your water and analyze it using our in-office lab equipment. We can then follow up with you the next day to explain the results and answer any questions about how to improve your water quality.
When we find high levels of chlorine or too many minerals in your water, what can be done about the problem? We don’t want you to feel overwhelmed. We’ll always go over the results of your test with you and answer any questions you have.
There are different solutions to every problem. Water softeners help to take out minerals in your water. There are also special filters that leave your water free from chlorine before it reaches any of your taps. There are even solutions that can neutralize water that has a pH that’s too high or too low. We can take care of all of these installations for you at Morris-Jenkins.
