If you’re not noticing any problems with your water, you probably don’t need to worry about a test. Of course, since our basic tests are free whenever you schedule a plumbing diagnostic, it’s always worth checking your water just to be sure. At Morris-Jenkins, we can order tests for pretty much anything. But we have a basic test that has helped a lot of families in Indian Trail already. With this basic test, we’ll check for a few different things:
Chlorine Levels
Don’t you just love the smell of pool water? It probably reminds you of lazy summer days or trips to the water park. We don’t wanna burst your bubble, but the smell you’re thinking of is the odor of chlorine mixed with contaminants. If you’re smelling a faint pool smell in your tap water, it might mean the chlorine levels are too high.
High chlorine levels can cause things like red skin, itchy eyes, dry hair, and stains on your fixtures. Plus, it can end up in the steam from your shower and cause lung problems. We’ll test for chlorine to see how much is hanging out in your water.
Mineral Levels
Lots of people drink mineral water on purpose. But if you have it flowing through your taps, you’re gonna end up with mineral build-up in your pipes, yellowish stains on your clothes, and spots on your dishes. You might also not like the way your water tastes. We’ll test for the most common minerals which are magnesium, iron, and calcium.
pH
If your water tastes sour, it’s possible that the pH of your water is off. What’s pH? It’s a number that tells you how acidic or basic your water is. It can go either way. Water with a low pH is too acidic and might corrode your pipes a little faster. When it has a high pH, you’ll have problems with scaly build-up, low water pressure, and bitter-tasting water. We can make sure your water is a little more neutral.
After you’ve had your water tested, we’ll give you a report that details all the information you wanted to know about your water. The results can be a little confusing, so we’ll make sure to explain them to you clearly. If you find out that your water has a high or low pH, or it has too much chlorine or lots of minerals, we’ll help you figure out a plan.
For chlorine, the plan is usually to put in a filter that gets all of the chlorine out before it even reaches your taps. Even if you don’t drink tap water, it can end up in your shower (which means you’re breathing it in steam and absorbing it into your skin). A water softener will take care of too many minerals and get rid of the problem of water stains. We can also help you set up systems to treat low or high pH and get it back to neutral.
