 Water Service Connection

Water Service Connection by Morris-Jenkins

Water service connection is what keeps water flowing into your home, whether you’re on city water in Greenville or using a private well. City water gets treated and pressurized before it ever reaches your house. Well systems rely on a pump and tank to do the job instead.

If something’s off with your water supply, we can take a look and get things working the way they should.

Which Water Service Connection Is Better?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Both options have their pros and cons.

If your home uses well water, you won’t have a monthly water bill. But tracking down leaks can be harder since there’s no meter giving you a heads-up.

Homes on city water do get a bill, but they’ve got a big advantage—your water meter can help catch leaks early before they turn into bigger problems.

How Does Well Water Service Connection Work?

If your home runs on well water, it doesn’t get pressurized water from the city. Instead, it depends on two main components: a well pump and a bladder tank.

The well pump pulls water from underground and fills the bladder tank. Inside the tank is pressurized air. As water fills the bladder, it expands and builds pressure. When you turn on a faucet or appliance, that pressure pushes water through your pipes.

Once the water level drops, the system kicks the pump back on to refill the tank. This setup keeps water flowing without the pump running nonstop.

Converting City Water Service Connection to Well Water Service Connection

Thinking about switching from city water to a well? We can help with everything after the well is already in place. We don’t dig wells, but once it’s there, we’ll handle the connection and setup.

Before you make the switch, it’s a good idea to test your well water. You won’t have chlorine like city water, but there could be other contaminants you don’t wanna deal with. We can test it and walk you through your options.

How Does City Water Service Connection Work?

Homes in Greenville and across the Upstate that use city water get it at a pretty high pressure. In fact, the city often sends water out at 150 PSI or more.

Inside your home, plumbing codes say pressure shouldn’t be above 80 PSI. That’s where a PRV (pressure reducing valve) comes in. It lowers the pressure before it reaches your plumbing and appliances.

PRVs usually last about 10 years, which is around the same lifespan as a water heater. It’s common to replace both at the same time.

If your PRV starts failing, you might notice:

  • Leaky faucets
  • Leaky showerheads
  • Water hammering
  • Squealing toilets
  • Multiple fixtures failing at once

If you’re seeing any of these, we can check your pressure and take a look at your PRV. If that’s the issue, we’ll replace it and get everything back to normal fast.

Thermal Expansion Tanks

You know how a pot of water rattles when it heats up with the lid on? That’s expansion at work.

Your water heater does the same thing. When water heats up, it expands. In homes with city water pressure, that expansion needs somewhere to go.

That’s why thermal expansion tanks are installed with tanked water heaters and some tankless systems. They absorb that extra pressure so it doesn’t damage your plumbing or appliances.
